Red Dragonflies

Dragonflies are ancient insects. They have existed on Planet Earth for approximately 300 million years. Today, they look very much like they did in "dinosaur times," though they have gradually gotten smaller since then.

That little guy is much redder than any red dragonfly I've ever seen in my backyard; what a little jewel! And thank goodness the got smaller. Even this one wouldn't be quite as charming with a 3-foot wingspan and eye the size of dinner plates!!

I LOVE dragonflies and am obsessed with taking photos of them! But, I must admit, I am really jealous - I have not been able to get photos of a red dragonfly! These are AWESOME!
